Principals Report – Julie Porras

  • Principal Porras wished everyone well and gave a special shout-out to the PTA volunteers for all of the amazing hard work that goes on behind the scenes year round and especially during the card party.
  • The playground work has started again. She reminded them that we want this done as quickly as possible.
  • Summer Rising will happen at 175 this summer. Tina said it will be going out soon March 4th similar to last year where academics happen in the morning from 8am-12pm and then 12pm to 4pm or 6pm the CBO takes over and they do fun things all day.
  • Attendance has been great. Monday attendance was Harlem Masters Basketball and only 14 students were absent out of the entire school. Next week is reading week with different activities and a reading contest. Depending on how many minutes they read in the month of March they receive a certificate from the Boulders and possibly up to 4 tickets to a game.
  • There will be a March madness contest for Zearn and Lexia. Winners of that will get to play basketball against staff members.
  • Reminder to parents that the Parent Teacher conferences take place on Thursday so it will be a half day..
  • The Scholastic Book fair is happening from March 3rd-6th and on Thursday from 11:30-1:30 parents can come in and shop with their child. Lost and Found items will also be spread out.
  • Friday is our monthly assembly for perfect attendance, Honor Roll, and Student of the Month, along with an activity for parents.
  • Parent Survey time is happening. Principal Porras encouraged parents to look out for this and please complete it. They are looked at very closely and value parent feedback. A lot of changes are made as a direct result of the feedback. The class that has the most people complete the survey will have a special treat.
  •  Our students are on the front page of The Island Current. They are undefeated borough-wide volleyball champions.

President’s Report – Melissa Rosado / Joanne Cautillo

Card Party Announcements

  • We are still busy wrapping, organizing, and taking donations.  Last year was much more intense with the Amazon wish list. We have been blasting but haven’t been receiving as many gifts as last year. Any donation big or small is appreciated. Jo-Ann explained how the class baskets work. If you know anyone who can make a donation or something brand new at home just send it in and we will wrap it.
  • We are up to 247 tickets sold.
  • Jo-Ann explained again what a card party is . It’s 70 dollars a ticket. It’s raffles and prizes that are sorted into 4 different price ranges. We also do a 50/50 and a birthday box where you sign up, pick a date, and win half the amount of the birthday box. We also do a silent auction by the teachers who donate an activity/their time such as making cookies or lunch at the diner with a teacher. Jo-Ann encouraged people to bring a stamp with their name and number on it.  She encouraged people to go to the website and zelle or pay directly by credit card for the tickets.
  • Why is it called a card party – Does anyone really have an answer? No cards involved and know one knows.
  • It is Glam, Glitter, and Groove – Disco Theme. Dress for the theme if you would like.
  • For gifts, we have Coach, Kate Spade, Shake Shack, Stew Leonard’s, sports memorabilia, Six Flags, SplashDown Beach, autographed photos, houseware, outdoor patio stuff, and more. We also have a grand prize of a vacation with perks. Louise DelGiudice donated to us. We should give back to our community businesses who support us. Laundry Train is always very generous and Jo-Ann’s dad’s company helps us so we do not have to be at a deficit. This helps the students have perks like big buses for trips, Hollyrock, and crafts that they do. Jo-Ann encouraged people to buy from the Amazon wishlist.

New Business:

World’s Finest Chocolate Sale Winner

The 3rd grade won the contest and they are going to have a pizza party tomorrow for selling the most cases of World’s Finest Chocolate bars.

Old Business:

Movie Night / Wrapping Night Success

The kids were so happy and so comfortable that it was like watching kids watch a movie in the safety and comfort of their home. The hot dog machine was a success and a great purchase for us. Getting popcorn donated and halving the 8th grade help out for service hours was a success, and many parents helped with wrapping. We will try to sneak one more in before the end of the year.

Ticket Sales $300.00
Snacks $433.00
Hot Dogs $230.00
Swag $80.00
50/50 $125.00
Total $1,168.00
Costs 171.07
Net $996.93

Picture Retake / Graduation Photos

  • Lasting Impressions held a retake day.  They took pictures with a gown, without a gown, solo pics, and group pictures. They made sure that everything was perfect and parents could go online and pick whatever they would like. Once it’s all done, we will be able to determine our profit.

Adjournment:

  • The night before the card party we will need help with decorating. The Wednesday before we will need help transporting. Melissa asked the PTA to please let us know if you are available to come in during the day to wrap. Gifts need to be in by next Friday the latest. Almost 300 pamphlets need to be printed. Those working that night- Melissa will reach out and we will meet briefly to understand what needs to be done.
  • The meeting was adjourned at : 7:55pm
