Card Party Success – Theresa Cavinee
- Principals Report – Ms. Wiehler
- Attendance is strong at 93%. The playground is still being worked on with a finish goal in the beginning of next year. We are still going strong with the Boulder Reading Challenge. The Scholastic Book Fair made over $2000 and Read Across America is a success. The CEO of the math curriculum is visiting our school because he heard such great things. We are getting ready for tests coming up by incorporating test prep readiness activities. Some kids do more in the after school program. The School District has identified students to monitor. They are getting an additional 20 minutes per day. ELA testing is from April 23-25th and again on April 29-30th for Grades 6-8. Math is from May 8-9th for Grades 6-8. May 13th is the Science test.
President’s Report – Melissa Rosado / Joanne Cautillo
The Card Party was a huge success with a lot of positive feedback. We are open to any comment/concerns. Jo-Ann encouraged people to let us know so that it could be recorded in the minutes. Denise McGarry suggests we come up with a better plan for the 50/50. We have a great system in place for the Birthday Box, so that was one great change from last year. We did have many people on for 50/50 maybe we can just sell it during a certain time frame. We are very careful to keep that money separated. Ms. Wiehler as if there was a station you can buy 50/50. The answer was yes, next to the Birthday Box. Jo-Ann thanked Dr. G, Ms Bellon, Ms. McDermott, and anyone who helped to make the night a success. Rupa stated that it was her first Card Party. She thought it was excellent, loved the theme, and dressing up was lots of fun. She suggested we have a photographer and you can even sell the pictures to people. Ms. Wiehler suggested a prize for the best dressed.
Our Profits: Potential Next Steps
We want to do something from the PTA for the school. We are looking into getting a digital scoreboard in our school for sports events. Another idea is to have a digital communication board outside of the school. This way when you are walking or driving on the avenue, there will always be reminders of things going on in the school. We will work with Kathy and Julie to see what they think the school needs. Jo encouraged parents’ input. Rachel loved the communication board and suggested a monthly calendar be added to it. It can be a scrolling text from a computer or stay on the screen. Carly suggested more after school activities for grades K-5 or clubs/sports. Jo-Ann wants NY Edge to be expanded to make it more convenient for parents. We have a request put in for next year. Jesse and Mr. Cohen checked grades and assignments and he will not let kids participate in sports if their grades dropped. Jesse really spearheaded the after school program, so if you see him thank him for his efforts.
Shoutouts were made to thank everyone for the card party efforts: Kurstin, Carly, Kelly, Brittney, Karen, Denise, Christine, Rupa, Artenida, and so many more.
A screen was shared by Denise for special shoutouts to : Artenida Bylo as Rookie of the Year, Brittany as The Most Resourceful, and Rachel Denehy as The Most Spirit.
Jay suggested that we have a banner made that can be used every year or a general PTA banner which we can hang in the school. Denise McGarry shared a slideshow video of pictures throughout the night.
New Business:
Cookie Dough Fundraiser
This will be coming up in April. Information will be sent out soon.
Old Business:
This was a recap of what is to be done with some of the profits from the Card Party. We are thinking of getting a Score Board (8×4) for the gym but we have to speak to the custodian to make sure everything is set with the electric/where it would need to go, etc. We will talk to Julie and Kathy to see what programs they think the kids will benefit from. We will discuss final totals of the Card Party at the next meeting.
Adjournment:
- Melissa and Jo-Ann thanked everyone again and let us know that all of this would not have been possible without each and every person that helped in any way. We truly appreciate everyone.
- The meeting was adjourned at : 7:58pm
