- Principals Report – Principal Porras
- State testing started yesterday for Grades 3-5 and will continue for Grades 6-8 next week with positive experiences by students. Parents will be reminded through Dojo and letters will be sent home. The Soap Box Derby led by Ms. Hiel will be held on May 11th. The Minecraft Education Event led by Ms. Chi is coming up soon. Mr. Cohen with New York Edge is hosting a ComicCon event on May 9th. Steam Expo has worked on projects and will be represented around the 20th.
- Playground – They are in the process of pouring concrete with hopes of completion for September 2025.
- Application for smaller class sizes has been put in by SLT.
- Parent Teacher Conferences are being held remotely next week from 4:30pm-7:30pm. In the first hour, your child’s current teacher will discuss the curriculum for the rest of the year. In the second hour, parents can meet with teachers from the next grade to gauge what to expect. The second hour is just informational, as teachers do change. The third hour will be individual meetings if a meeting is needed by the teacher for an individual student.
President’s Report:
- We are planning a Family Bingo Night on May 30th with prizes for both kids and adults. We will not hold Spring Fest due to the state of the yard.
- Next Friday the assembly is focused on Better World Day. Parents can visit their child’s classroom to listen to students sharing what they are doing to make their community a better place.
- The 4th grade trip to Albany has been brought back after Covid with the help of Assemblyman Bennedetto. He came to the 7th grade Shoreline Project. He is supposed to be granting us a substantial amount of money to help with school technology.
Theresa C. asked if she can share information on the Community Education Council, as our current candidate’s information is not on the page to vote. Tina will help look into this. Melissa explained that voting opens tomorrow for about 2 weeks. Tina will send out something tomorrow to parents with general information. Melissa shared the general DOE page into the group chat and encouraged people to click on District 11.
New Business:
Cookie Dough Fundraiser
- The Cookie Dough fundraiser lasts about 2 weeks. Information went out this week. They come frozen and are shelf stable and ready to bake. You can go on their website to order different types of items that are not available on the paper that was sent out. Ship to the school for free shipping.You can also bring in cash or check to order. All orders will be distributed a few weeks later.
We usually celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week by providing a luncheon and buying the teachers a gift. CIR can provide coffee for the teachers. We encourage the kids to make cards to show appreciation.
Old Business:
Picture Retakes- Graduation pictures have been sent out. No major complaints. We are hopeful to keep the same company for next year.
Possible Expenditures – Gym Scoreboard or Digital Communications Board: Information in progress. Principal Porras says parents would most appreciate a music program.
